As humanity has stripped the Earth of much of its natural resources, the process of exploring the universe in an attempt to find a new home has begun. In response, nearly all energy production has moved off planet. The inner planetary system, and all space exploration, relies on the mining and refining of rare-earth metals found in the asteroid belt beyond Mars.

In the harsh and unforgiving reaches of space, the country and cultural allegiances of Earth no longer exist. The multi-national, off-world mining enterprises that first braved to venture into the depths of space have consolidated, over time, into the Cedalion Corporation.

It is the mission of the corporation, for the good of all humanity, to ensure the continued production of energy and protect it from the pirates, smugglers and insurgents that wish to disrupt the balance of power of the solar system.
